Sydney - 26.11.2012-30.11.2012

Noosa 19.11.-25.11.

After my trip to cairns i decided, to go back to the south of australia for the last two weeks before I would fly to new zealand. The north of australia is not bad, but you can not go swimming in the sea anywhere, because of the jelly fishes. Only in the lagoons, but lagoons are boring, because there are no waves. because the last days had been very stressful I decided to relax a bit in noosa for about one week. On my first day in noosa I arrived in the afternoon, and used the rest of the day to buy some food for the whole week. On the second day I made a small trekking tour with some people from my hostel through the national park along the coast. Here some of the photos i took from this trip:

For the rest of the week i basically just chilled out, went to beach, body-boarding and surfing and swimming and so on ... I always went to the sunshine beach, which was not the the best for surfing, because the waves there were kind of messy and a bit to strong for a beginner like me.

Rainforrest in the north of Cairns + Solar Eclipse 14.11.2012

In the morning of the 14th of November i had to get up really early, in order to see the total solar eclipse in Cairns. It should be my first solar eclipse ever. Because the eclipse was happening right after sun rise the eclise should be visible above the sea. So i walked to the harbour in order to see the solar eclipse. When i arrived at the harbour i realized that the conditions there , to see the eclipse were incredibly bad, because the harbour was lying behind some small mountains and above the mountains there were lots of clouds. So when arrived at the harbour it was not possible to see anything, because of the clouds, as shown in the following picture:

the moment of the total solar eclipse

For the first 45 mintues i couldn t see anything :( . The most exciting moment of the total solar eclipse, when it was getting completely dark was unfortunately not visible either. This means i could see how it was getting dark, but not how the moon was covering the sun completely.
I was really lucky, that short time after the total eclipse the clouds were lightening up a bit again, so i could at least see parts of the partial solar eclipse.
This really rescued my day. I was lucky to take this photo of the partial eclipse:

Right after the solar eclipse i had to go back to the hostel were a bus picked me up for a one day trip to the rainforrest. Now honestly, compared to the rain forrest trips i have done in Asia this was a trip for pussies.
In the following picture you can see the bus which brought us to the north of Australia. They call it "Active Tropics Explorer". "Passive Tropics Explorer" would be a better name, because basically what we did on this trip, was sitting on this bus for 70% of the time. Of course we stopped several times at some locations, but then we only stayed there for like 5 minutes went for a short walk or something like that and then had to jump back on the bus again.

the "Active Tropics Explorer" bus

Our first visit was at a river of which i cannot remember the name. We made a small boat trip there which was maybe about 20 minutes to half an hour, i cannot remember. On this trip we could see crocodiles some times, like in the pictures down below.

After this small boat trip on the river we continued our bus ride. We shortly stopped at this funny sign about the cassowies. The cassowies are really big birds which live in the rainforrests in the north of australia. During our bus ride we were able to see 2 or 3 of them from the bus. Unfortunately only from the bus.

The next stop was at some small board walk path, were we could see some nice and excotic plants. I cannot remember the name of this plant but i am sure it had the name bascet in it , because its like a bascet which grows on the trees :)

After this small walk we went to have lunch at some restaurant in the rain forrest. They had an extra nice vegetarian meal for me: a delicious veggy-burger :) . During our lunch break we were allowed to walk from the restaurant to the beach for some 5 minutes. On the way to the beach i was able to spot this beautiful butterfly:

The beach is really romantic and beautiful. There is no human being at this beach at all, but unfortunately, as you know it s not possible to go swimming in the sea , because of the jelly fish.

After lunch, we jumped back on the bus and stopped for like 2 minutes at this beautiful lookout point, of which i had to take a panorama picture.

After lunch i think we visited an aborigine camp, and talked to one of the aborignes for like 1 minute, and then jumped back on the bus. The last stop was at another smaller river some where in the forrest, were we were allowed to go swimming. We only stayed there for about 20 minutes and then jumped back on the bus. Thats the whole trip. On our way back we shortly stopped at the side of the road, because there was a beautiful and big rainbow above the sea.

So after having done this trip, im not sure whether its really worth its money.
I didnt like the trip in the way that it was really stressfull, and the you only spend like 5 minutes at every location. In my opionion if you take a car, and and drive to the rain forrest yourself you can do all the things on your own and you would have more time to go for a walk for example.

Great barrier Reef 15.11.2012

On the 15h of November i went on a one day boat trip to the Great barrier reef.
The name of our ship was the "ocean freedom". This trip was one of the nicest trips ive done in australia. I even liked it a bit more then the Whitsunday Islands trip because i think the coral reefs looked a bit more beautiful compared to the reefs at the Whitsunday islands.
First of all we made a small boat trip with a "glas"-boat, where the floor of the boat is made of glass so you can see the reef and the fishes and so on.

After this small glass boat trip we went snorqling at the reef, where i could see a real sea turtle :) . After lunch, i went diving, which was really beautiful and also relaxing because you dont have to swim back up to the water surface all the time. Unfortunately i didnt have an under water camera so i could only take pictures from outside of the water.

I think one of the impressive things if you are so far out on the sea, is that if you turn around in 360 degree, you can only see water around you. And if you look at the horizon you see that the earth is a sphere. That the horizon is not flat, but like a curve :)
I took these two pictures on the way back to Cairns:
