Blue Duck station
On the 15.12. we visited the so called blue duck station which was somewhere in the national park. As far as i can interpret this, the idea of this station is to help to regrow the rainforest in this area of New Zealand.
On this day we went for a walk to a waterfall. Most of the way looked like the shire from lord of the rings.

On the way back we saw this bird in the trees. I have no idea what the name of this bird is, but it was quite a big one.

In the evening i followed craig benzine*s advice and threw and axe. Which was quite fun :)
And the best thing is: it was for free :D

Tongariro Alpine crossing
On the 16th of December we went on a longer walk through the Tongariro national Park. We wanted to do the "Alpine Crossing". Unfotunately some weeks before there had been and eruption from one of the volcanos and a part of the path had been destroyed, which is why we could only walk to the half of the way, and then we had to go back the same way, which we came from.
They told me that the big black mountain (which we could see all the time during the walk) is mount doom from Lord of the Rings :) .

While we were walking up into the the mountains, you could see this interesting landscape. The dark part at the beginning looks a bit like Mordor. Where it starts to become green - this is the kingdom of Gondor. And beyond the mountains lies Rohan, land of the Horse Men ;)
